ORAL
HERPES
Oral
herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Type 1 (or HSV-1) virus
and is primarily responsible for the development of cold sores
and fever blisters around the periphery of the mouth and on the
gums and tongue. Although oral herpes is seldom dangerous the
virus can cause a great deal of discomfort and since the virus
attacks and weakens the immune response system, it can
complicate other ailments by weakening the body. Once the virus
is contracted it cannot be cured, but is treatable by a number
of new medicines available on the market today. The virus can
lay dormant in the body for long periods of time and is normally
triggered by an event such as fever, immunodeficiency, trauma,
and even emotional distress. Many people have oral and do not
seek treatment because they are not aware they are infected, or
feel embarrassed. If you believe you have oral herpes, you
should you contact your primary care physician to get diagnosis
and treatment.
